About Khristofer
About
My name is Khristofer Johnsen. My roots in rural Appalachia have shaped much of the way I understand people, place, story, and belonging. They have also led me through valleys of experience that called me toward the stories we carry—the ones that go untold, the ones spoken only in whispers, the ones marked by pain, and the ones that rise boldly from the peaks.

Called to the work
I am currently a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at Seminary of the Southwest, preparing for licensure as a professional counselor. I was drawn to this field through a belief in the healing power of relationships and in the ways authentic connection can create space for growth and change.

What I believe
I believe people are more than the difficulties they encounter. I believe we carry wisdom alongside wounds. I believe our bodies and relationships have stories to tell. I believe culture and community matter. I believe identity matters. I believe healing is rarely linear.

Why Appalachian Sanctuary?
A hollow can be a place of shelter. A trail can represent movement without requiring certainty about the destination. A lantern does not illuminate the entire forest. It gives us enough light to see where we are and perhaps where to place the next step. And old trees remind us that growth requires roots, nourishment, time, weather, connection, and good soil.

Walking alongside your story
It is a privilege to bear witness to another person's story. My hope is not to tell you who you are or where you should go. My hope is to create a relationship in which you can listen more closely to yourself, explore the stories that have shaped you, and discover what becomes possible when there is room for curiosity, compassion, and change.
